Known for their family recipes of classic Caribbean food staples, from Jamaican beef patties and coco bread, to jerk chicken, oxtail, and curried goat or chicken. Offerings now include vegetarian and beyond meat alternatives. The bakery boasts numerous enticing options including spice bun, hard dough bread, and carrot cake (among many more delectable items).
I stopped in on 3-19-26 at 1:30 in the attention thinking I was going to get myself my second favorite type of food, Caribbean. More specifically, Jamaican. I was EXTREMELY disappointed. I ordered 4 meat patties and a mixed plate of curried goat after waiting for the guy behind the counter to finish playing around on his phone and the computer on the counter. Honestly, I don't know if it was work related or not, but I really felt like an imposition never I was neither greeted or looked at until I asked if the were serving lunch or if they were closed. THE BEGINNING I asked if they had any saltfish fritters that the online menu says, and he told me, while pointing and still not looking at me, there is the menu, that is what we have. The menu board on the wall was half stickers and half marker for items and prices were incomplete on most of the items. So after ordering the mixed curry goat plate and my 4 patties, he put the patties in individual bags and started putting together the goat. He had no place to work putting together the mixed plate because there's stuff all over the counters, so he took the pan out of the heated box they store the food in and walked over to where I could see. The vegetables that were drinking around in that pan looked like they were in that brownish green colored greasy water for days and the smell was sickening. So I said I changed my mind, please cancel the goat plate. So with more huffing and puffing and under his breath cursing than my teenager could ever do he dumped the veggies back in the pan, slammed the pan back in the hot box and slammed the door closed. Didn't ask if I wanted anything else or if there was anything wrong, nothing. I asked how much I owed him for the four patties and a fruit punch I grabbed, and said without looking at me and pointing to an older woman carrying a pan of frozen patties up from the basement, uncovered, exposed to her and the original guy talking over them, she will charge you and then he went back to doing whatever he was doing that I interrupted when I walked in She was less than friendly and told me "gimme your card". So I did and she had to manually enter all my card information into her clover account app that she had on her phone. Account number, my zip code, the security number on back and then the amount. Of course the purchase was authorized and when I asked for a receipt, she just walked away. THE PATTIES: I am going to attempt to post a pic and then you will know how they were. Out of ten with ten being the best, I'm giving them a one. And that's only because the outer pastry was good in a couple spots. Way over cooked, soggy wherever the meat inside the pattie was and the edges were so hard I had to be careful not to crack a tooth. THE FRUIT PUNCH: The bottle of fruit punch I believe the brand is AG or AW or something like that, is actually from Jamaica and even though it's like almost 5 dollars, it was REALLY good. Highlight of this visit to what is supposed to be an iconic, Jamaican restaurant. No tables to sit at, very dimly lit, filthy floors and walls. No warmth and definitely not welcoming like the Jamaican people usually are. There are at least three other Jamaican/ Caribbean take out places within a mile to a mile and a half from Golden Krust and I would highly, HIGHLY recommend going to any of them over this place. I only ordered and ate the patties because sometimes you just have to have yourself that Caribbean treat! For some reason I cannot post pictures. Too bad.
NEVER AGAIN!!! I am VERY disappointed and will not be coming back. I ordered a large ackee and salt fish and it looks like I ordered a large green banana and a side of salt fish. WASTE OF MONEY!!!! My husband just called to complain and was told by the lady “It’s portion control.” This should be told to the customers prior to taking their money!!! She didn’t even argue that it isn’t a large. THERE IS NOT EVEN ANY ACKEE and the food don’t taste good!!
The rice was extremely dry, and the vegetables on the side were very bland and lacking flavor. The service was good, and the staff was friendly, but unfortunately the food itself wasn’t very appetizing. For the quality of the meal, I also felt it was a bit overpriced.
