About Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurant
A fast-casual takeout or dine-in Caribbean & Jamaican restaurant, conveniently situated on the corner of Broadway and Ritter Avenue in Amityville. Known for their family recipes of classic Caribbean food staples, from Jamaican beef patties and coco bread, to jerk chicken, oxtail, and curried goat or chicken. Offerings now include vegetarian and beyond meat alternatives. The bakery boasts numerous enticing options including spice bun, hard dough bread, and carrot cake (among many more delectable items).
First time customer of this location. ( I typically frequent two other Jamaican restaurants on this street, however know Golden Krust to have a good reputation). The worker was friendly, however my first issue, was that I ordered from the pictured menu an item listed as a #2. When u order things, u expect it to be as pictured unless they specifically say, drink sold separately. I expected a combo of sorts and really a drink as that’s how it advertised. Secondly, at an item sold for 12.99, I expected tax less to meet at aprx $14. (NYS @ 8.875%), which was fine as I had $15 and a few hundreds. My total pushed to closer to 16, which isn’t major but I would’ve preferred transparency and maybe ordered down, instead of breaking a large bill for a few cents. I was advised that the increase was it was tax which I knew was off. Only upon asking for a receipt did I notice a service charge which never mentioned. Establishments are required to have this posted somewhere. When I asked about it, the worker explained she’s not the owner and doesn’t make the prices, then later proceeded to say the owner raised prices. (Meanwhile I paid cash). Again.. this should have been communicated. Small dollar amount, but honestly this is why people are less likely to support local business. When u feel like your being cheated and pricing isn’t transparent, it’s frustrating.. especially from your own people, then made to feel like your wrong or being petty by politely questioning or pointing this out.
The person that took my order seemed to have a serious attitude. I ignored that because I just wanted my food. But they should work on customer service. It's not really a sit down spot per say. Most people pick up their food and go home to eat.
