Known for their family recipes of classic Caribbean food staples, from Jamaican beef patties and coco bread, to jerk chicken, oxtail, and curried goat or chicken. Offerings now include vegetarian and beyond meat alternatives. The bakery boasts numerous enticing options including spice bun, hard dough bread, and carrot cake (among many more delectable items).
I’m originally from Atlanta and also lived in Orlando, FL for over three years, so I’ve been going to Golden Krust since the early 2000s. It’s always been one of my go-to spots, and I used to go at least once a week. The food has always been good, even though the customer service has never really stood out. That’s why I was excited to find a location in St. Pete—but this experience was disappointing. I ordered through Uber Eats and went to pick up my food, only to realize the steamed vegetables and plantains—items that have always been included with my meals were missing. When I checked the app, I saw that both now have to be added separately, with about a $5 charge for plantains and an additional charge for steamed vegetables. That was honestly shocking, especially since that’s never been my experience at other locations. Because of that, this will likely be my first and last time visiting this location. When I’m back in Orlando, I’d rather go there, where the portions and pricing feel more consistent—even if I’m paying a small upcharge $2 for plantains veggies included.
This staff is extremely rude. No one greeted my family and I when we walked in. I asked the guy who was on the register for dumplings and he didn’t give them to me. They gave me only 4 single napkins! I ordered several large dinners. As we were leaving the staff didn’t thank me for my business nor did they say “have a great day.” I’m big on customer service and professionalism. All it takes is one time for me to experience this type of behavior to make me NEVER do business with an establishment again. There are way too many other Caribbean restaurants around town that have better service than these folks. To top it off, the food was only subpar! Never again!
Eaten here twice this week and it was really good. Friendly service. The goat soup was fantastic and also fish, goat curry, and jerk chicken.
